Simple question, if money was no object what is the best bike and why?
I have seen bikes ranging from under £300 to £3000.
Also which is best European, more often than not with Far Eastern content, or totally Oriental?

simple question it may be but extremely hard to answer for me....i loved my synergy/eddsion except it had no balls...(24 volt battery) so just sold it...as only have knowledge of that and my 5 speed powabyke, which cant get the vote as 5th gear is far too slow....i will sit on the fence and read all further posts and weigh up what each person says about their pick and tell you at the end of postings my opinion..based on information from others....:)

As I said at the end of the Kalkhoff review, to some extent this depends on what one's view on e-bikes is.

If it's to be still a bicycle with some electric assistance added without spoiling the bicycle side, then it could only be a bike with a Panasonic unit, and regardless of cost as you've specified, that would be the high end BikeTech model, probably around £2500 at present, though I understand there's been some reductions recently since the Kalkhoff launch. Therefore it's a European bike with a Japanese motor unit.

I couldn't really suggest a candidate for the other type of e-bike, generally hub motored, where the power is a much bigger factor at the cost of some of the cycling qualities. The motor part would have to be Oriental, but the bicycle part if Oriental would have to be from an experienced cycle manufacturer like Giant to qualify.

The Swizzbee is out of the frame for me for several reasons, it's in the second group but has a dated motor which is a flaw on such a bike, and has to be pedalled off the mark, a characteristic which doesn't sit well in that group. The whole thing is a bit "Heath Robinson" too.

I dare say Flyer S-Series for the first type and maybe Heinzmann Estelle for the second one, with a titanium Nano-Brompton in the middle perhaps. But what I've learned till now is that there is not the best electric bike, since the best one is the one that suits your very specific needs.

I'd love to be able to apologise for my grammar in a second language Leonardo, I think your English is beyond reproach.

I'd like to think that one day the English would all be so good with it!

Very nice - how much does it weigh? I would ask how much it costs but I think it is beyond my budget. Is it a case of "if you have to ask you cannot afford it"?

It's gorgeous, wonder if they would do a part ex for for my Mercedes A Class, or would I need to give them an arm and a leg as well:rolleyes:
That might make ridding rather awkward I suppose:eek:

I'm afraid so, about twice the cost of the Kalkhoff Pro-Connect, which uses the same power unit and battery, so I think I'll just content myself with that. I don't know the Flyer's weight, but probably a little heavier than the 20+ kilo Pro-Connect with it's hub gears, maybe as much as 24 kilos.
