Looking for people’s views on best budget folding e-bike. Have just hired a Raleigh Stow E-way for a month and seems good but reviews about motors going wrong and lack of Raleigh parts availability are concerning.

Appreciate any advice, max budget £1500.

Thanks.

Same question applies to anybody wanting to get an electric bicycle.: Are you able to fix and service the bike yourself with basic DIY skills or do you need to rely on a dealer to sort it out?

If you can do things yourself, there are some very good bikes on Amazon for around £500, otherwise you go to your local dealer and see what they have, and expect to pay £1500 upwards.

Apologise if this isn't useful to you but I would buy a second hand Carrera disc 9 (£300-£400 - 20" wheels, hydraulic brakes, 9 speed cassette with smallest gear on cassette 11 tooth) I would then convert it (or get it converted) using a 36v 10ah bag battery and front hub conversion using one of the "micro hubs" eg AKM 74 ). You end up with a very light and very capable bike.
