Hello all. I am a new member and would like your help. I have trawled through the electric bike scene looking for the best buy for my money 700pounds tops. I was going to buy a 50cc moped to put on a motor home. But I think the electric bike maybe the better option, weight wise.I have no need to loose weight 13 stone and want to pedal as little as possible. I want it to do maximum trips 5miles, to go to the takeaway, pub, and fishing. That will save moving the parked m/h so much. I can get a Whisper folding bike for the above money secondhand as new. Are they any good,or what do you think I should look for.John

Thanks for your reply Steve. The thoughts are a small light weight moped might be the best, but then I have to get a towbar and mount fitted to the M/H. Which plus the moped adds up to nearly two grand. Hence the thoughts on a electric bike to put on the bike rack thats already fitted. John.

Hi John, sorry to say that Wisper 805/6 folders hardly ever come up on the second hand market, there are some nice bikes on the market at under £800, including the one from "Juicy Wales"!! :)

Wasn't there a film staring Clint Eastwood about a Juicy Wales! :D :D

Sorry Bob, couldn't resist!

All the best

Hi John,

Here is a Wisper that might fit your needs Wisper 806fe folding electric bike on eBay (end time 08-Apr-11 20:52:21 BST) . But please be careful, it may possibly need a new battery.

Alternatively, you could have this baby for even less;)

Torritime:

when you come to a forum and get The Man from Wisper actually recommending someone else's product (the JuicyBike) - and there is ABSOLUTELY no commercial connection between the two - then you MUST know you've come to a pretty special place.

Given the choice, I'd buy a brand-new guaranteed Juicy than a take-a-chance 2nd-hand Wisper (or any other second-hand bike, come to that).

I'd agree unless there's a reasonable warranty left on the Wisper battery. I think in that ebay example the bike was made just before the two year warranty started.

Don't know the answer to that one, steve. If you went through component by component, you might find that Juicys were made of less expensive parts than Wispers. I was more amazed at David's altruism - any conventional salesman would have told torritime that Juicys WEREN'T as good, and that he should save his money and buy a Wisper on special hire-purchase terms that he just happened to have in his pocket....

Hi

I think on this forum we all try to give Genuine good non Biased advice

If the posting says £700 budget then we should leave advice

I recommend other company's on reliability off delivery and support

I also have not seen any complaints about Juicybikes so recommend them as-well

well done David Wisper

Thanks Allen and Frank

Of course I love Wisper's and believe they are amongst the best bikes available and are great value! :)

I am also a realist and understand that not everyone wants to spend the amount of money a medium/high end bike costs.

If this is the case I would far prefer that we converted another to the wonders of electric biking than lose them over price! Surely we are all in this to try and convert as many internal combustion miles to electric as possible? I am certainly not in it for the money! And you never know, they may want to upgrade to a Wisper next time they buy! :)

There are many good bikes available at lower prices however there are also some horrors. I would far rather promote a competitor with a cheaper bike who I know will look after the customer than lose the sale to the industry.

Just look for the BEBA logo!

All the best

Juicy Bikes are not as "good" as Wispers. The difference is well documented and briefly is to do with the quality of components. Wispers have selected more expensive components whilst Juicy use standard.

Wisper is also a much bigger company than Juicy, with a much wider dealership.

The two brands actually do share some components but decisions have been made by each company in the final mix of what has been "chosen" for the customer.

Juicy Bike philosophy is to provide a bike that is easy to customise and maintain. If you do not want top of the range forks, you don't have to have them. We offer choices of battery only, but are thinking of a two year warranty option (£99) at the checkout. Apparantly 10% of consumers take up extended warranty offers in places like Currys.

Our bikes do use standard fittings. They are, after all, bikes first and foremost, and pretty soon become as individual as their owners.

The two brands do share a committment to BEBA, the British Electric Bike Association, with a shared code of conduct and committment to quality and service.

I'd like to point out that there is nothing wrong in "only wanting to spend £700". I think £700 is not a trivial sum.

Trouble is Juicy Bikes cost £789, and so might also be out of reach. We are, though, able to offer Finance now we have our OFT License. We are currently looking for the best deal available to our customers from several credit finance houses.

Thankyou.

Hello all. Thank you for all your posts. I now have a Electric Bike. Its a 805fe 2010. It is every thing I hoped for, in fact its like living on the edge, while being completly safe. I have a new machine, not a toy and I have a lot to learn at 69yrs.May I publicly thank David from Wisper bikes for his time and help, even though I bought the bike second hand.I will beat the drum for his company to all. One thought, I must get a mirror first of all. Then the rest of the gear. I am like Toad of Toad Hall. With a permanant smile. John.

Hi John,

Wispers are very good bikes but there are alternatives. when you buy a second hand bike you have to make sure the battery has not been abused and will hold its charge and deliver a good range. You can get this checked or try a selection of second hand bikes at e-bikesdirect london store.

Thanks Torritime, it was a pleasure talking to you. I am really delighted you like the bike so much. The 805 and 806Alpino's hardly ever come up used, you have a bargain.

Enjoy!

All the best
