BBS01B 15/18/25amp - 24mph?

I'm looking to upgrade my 350w front hub motor (20mph max speed) to a BBS01B, either the 25amp version from brighton ebikes or a standard 15amp version and re-program it to 18amps.

Whats the best approach for this to be able to go beyond 20mph - will a standard 15/18amp one do, and are they all upratable to 18amp?

Or go for the 25amp one with a beefy battery with 35E or GA cells.

Would ideally like to go 24mph or a bit beyond.

Bike is an Alfine 8. I take it would need a gear sensor?

Should I be looking at a 46T Chainring and 16T sprocket?

15a controller don't think can change to 18a any more.

35E is not suitable for 25a demand, cycle life will be poor.

Thanks, now you mention it I do recall reading that the B version can't be uprated to 18amps easily.

I doubt I would run it at the full 25amp, maybe 22 max or so. I also don't envision it drawing this much current very often. I agree though GA does look like the more appropriate cell.

I guess I still wonder if the 15amp (250w) one would do over 20mph (~24mph with me pedalling) and I can avoid the added expense and (potential?) reduced durability of running the BBS01B at ~22amps (800w)?

Thanks! That's encouraging the 15amp will go over 20mph.

How fast depends on gearing I take it.

Anyone got any thoughts on if I need a gear sensor on Alfine 8?

Should I be looking at a 46T Chainring and 16T sprocket?

I have done over 3500 miles on my bbs01b using the original supplied equipment, I just stop peddling on gear change.

Have you considered trying to up the power of your front hub ? I run my 250w front at 48v and 28 amps, 24 mph top speed, however ensure forks are strong.

When your warranties run out on bbs01b you can run that at 48v.

Gear sensor not really needed for 15a just ease off the pedal for a sec whilst changing up, going down should be ok. I manage ok.
Might be different if you use a higher spec motor.

The alfine runs well with the gearing of 18 on the rear and the standard as supplied chainring on the front ,the 15 ah is ok , but do not try the 52 tooth on the front the top speed is higher but you risk burn out as an aside the tsdz2 is ok up to mid 20s mph as well

Cheers folks, think that pretty much covers it.

Looking to keep the hub motor kit for a different bike that'll be ridden legally, so not really considered uprating that one.

With the reprogramming from 15 to 18amp less of a certainty, I will likely go for the 25amp version and knock it down to 22 or so.

I’d add I have a 25a Brighton ebikes version . 42t bling ring and 16t sprocket on the alfine hub

It has been paired with a 15a controller from a bbs01 at the moment (I broke the original)

I programmed to 18a

It will easily do the speed you need derestriced on 18 or 25a. But the Torque difference is very apparent

Oh and deffo take it down to 22a. Soon as I paired the original controller with a really good cell pack (mj1) the controller blew at 25a

It was fine with a rubbish cell pack which just sagged under load

Thanks Kirstin, that does sound good but I've just learned my cycle scheme plan for the brighton ebikes version won't work.

What do people think about the BBS02B 36v 500w labelled as 250w? It sounds like it may even be the same or very similar thing as the ETM model from Brighton ebikes?

The 350 watt is not worth it to little gain [ I have one in the trike ]if you want a 36 v system the 500watt bbs02 which is set to 25 amps as standard is the one, its also available in 48v if you hunt around for it :D or stay legal at 250 watt version more power = more battery cost cheap packs die very quickly[ capacity /sag] at 25 amps
