June 14, 20205 yr Hi all, Just clocked up 1200 miles on my Bafang bbs01 mid drive motor. I've noticed lately that it's making more of a whirling noise than before, so wondering if it's due regreasing the main final drive cogs. Have read mobilgrease 28, aeroshell 22, lithium etc, bit confused with it all, so can you tell me: best grease to use how much to apply and where cheapest supplier for a tube any other tips cheers all
June 16, 20205 yr Author Thanks Nealh Any tips/advice on the amount needed, I see videos of them fully packing it in, is this the way to go ? Cheers
June 16, 20205 yr This grease gets recommended in the Q&A for being mineral based and somebody used on Bafang motor nylon gears although not done it myself yet. https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/weldtite-tf2-lithium-grease/rp-prod5959
June 16, 20205 yr For the final drive BBS pack it in, the more the grease the less room for moisture to sit. Final drive is all metal but you want one tah won't damage nylon in case is gets pass the final drive small pinion gear.

Went for a tube of Mobilgrease 28 from SilMid, not cheap at £27 delivered but the aeroshell stuff wasn't much cheaper, it's the postage at about £10 that's the killer. Small price to pay for long life hopefully . Thanks
June 16, 20205 yr You should have asked for recommends, you could have had a large 3kg tub of Aeroshell 22 for £25 and sold some off in 250gm or 500gm lots and be left with 1kg/500gms for free.

Have you a link please ?, I might be able to cancel my order - Thanks
June 16, 20205 yr Out of date redundant stock, but if you don't put too much on your toast you shouldn't get too ill. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AEROSHELL-22-SYNTHETIC-GREASE-3KG-MULTI-PURPOSE-HIGH-TEMPERATURE/143624141055?hash=item2170aa78ff:g:zkgAAOSwC3ZdymP8

I'll stick to the fresh stuff, knowing my luck the tin I'll get will have the consistency of French onion soup lol
June 16, 20205 yr I have tin of Castrol moly grease I've had since my 20's when I used to do all my own car maintenance and is still useful today for greasing my hub innards. The only reason the Aeroshell wil be cheap is the passed date can't be used in the aviation industry is was destined for but will be plenty good for a flying BBS.
June 18, 20205 yr Author Grease arrived today, packed it in, went out for a quick 5 mile ride earlier, motor now quieter. There was barely any in there before

June 27, 20205 yr The Mobile and Aeroshell 192.168.100.1 192.168.1.1 jpg to pdf are much the same type of grease. Edited June 28, 20205 yr by poloyadi

September 29, 20205 yr Got my tin of it today - It's HUGE so if anyone in mid kent needs some - please let me know I am in Surrey, not too far...... As a newbie with a Bafang BBS01B on a Giant Roam hybrid bike, I would be interested in more info as to exactly where (and how) you grease? Already knocking 150 miles and only fitted a week ago, so 1,200 miles will soon be achieved!

Already knocking 150 miles and only fitted a week ago, so 1,200 miles will soon be achieved! Unless it's changed, Bafang life cycle test is 30,000 miles, though that's under lab conditions. 1200 is a bit on the low side. I think a normal one would last a lot longer, so no need to panic, but a decent greasing wouldn't do any harm. Don't fill it with grease, like in the video. Not only will that make your motor very heavy, but it will cause a lot of viscous drag, which will probably do more harm than good, and it'll cut down your range.
March 27, 20215 yr Just a heads-up that the huge tins are back on ebay. Just received my lifetime supply. 3kg aeroshell 22
February 13, 20224 yr Are you guys packing in that much grease. How does that behave long term? In some applications I understand that packing too much grease can cause overheating?
