Good morning to all the nice people on here.

I am very curious to know how many people on here own a fire blanket or a fire extinguisher ? Some people do have fire blankets fitted to the walls in their kitchen at home but has anyone bought either of these or even planning to buy specifically for their electric bike?

Secondly, how many people on here keep their ebikes in or out doors?

On a technical note can a battery fitted with a fuse prevent a battery from exploding or catching on fire ?

We have extinguishers, but had them for years gauges say they should still work.
Folder in the spare room (in frame battery), Tonaro lives in the family room (battery along side on a side table on a ceramic placemat), hobby lipos live in a Lipo bag inside a disused electric frypan with lid in the spare room.

Kind of, a fuse would only help with a short in the wiring whilst on the bike, it would not help if over charged or punctured.
Most fires I have heard of seem to be overcharging or occasionally a short.

I doubt that a fire extinguisher would be very effective. Fire blankets are always useful. The risk of a normal battery catching fire and burning down your house is infinitessimally small, especially if it's in an aluminium case. The only fire I've heard of is the guy that bought the home-made battery without BMS from Ebay. There's loads of phones and vaping sticks that burst into flames, but nobody seems to worry about them.

Only a dry powder extinguisher would work effectively, and then you would probably need a special powder blend for full effectiveness. Either way, the powder will cause as much or more damage than a burning battery!

We have had extinguishers and a blanket in the home after owning a canal boat where they have to be fitted to comply with the regulations.
With regards battery's as d8veh states the cased commercial ones are well proven and safe unless abused.
I believe the airlines deal with phone / laptop battery fires with an ice and water filled metal container to cool and smoother the heated battery.
I would always recommend that you be around if you are charging battery's, and check the smoke alarm works;)
