Ok my wife has neglected her pendelton battery. She left it over winter without charging. It is a new bike and I have been told the battery is in sleep mode. Can I have some names where this can be repaired.

If within two years then use the battery warranty to sort it out, us ethe dealer you bought the bike from or consult the manual.

Two years ago, my partner and I bought her a Pendleton in this pretty much exact state. The battery charger when connected did nothing. The light on the charger stayed green. The battery seemed to be dead. It came very cheaply - £350 for a virtually unused bike that had been left in a garage over winter. I posted about how we restored it and was severely criticised for it, but the solution put the bike back into a chargeable state and it even now has a range of about twenty-five miles.

I CAREFULLY connected a voltmeter to the positive and negative output terminals of the battery, and taking care about the polarity of the charger /battery connection, I rigged up charging wires to these and while watching the whole time and monitoring the voltage, I charged it through its output terminals for about ten minutes with the supplied 2 amp charger.

When the voltage started rising on these terminals, I disconnected and attempted again to charge through the charging port and the charger started charging normally again. The light on the charger showed red until it was fully charged when it turned green as you would expect.

I had expected to find the battery was useless, but it has a high capacity and gives full power and performance.

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITH ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND NEVER EVER EVER connect it up that way and go off to do something else. The battery being charged like this is a ten minute only job. There will be no BMS protection while you are doing it.

MANY PEOPLE WILL CONSIDER THIS METHOD UNORTHODOX AND POSSIBLY DANGEROUS IN NAIVE HANDS. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO SHORT THE OUTPUT OF THE BATTERY AND NEVER LEAVE A BATTERY ALONE ON CHARGE LIKE THIS.

Make sure you get the wires the right way round or there will be a big bang. Use a meter to find out which is which.

The bang will be the fuse in the charger blowing or the one in your mains plug. No damage will be done to the battery.

Yes -

All good advice. I tried to emphasise the possible issues and it is absolutely right to mention this again.
