Hi
I’m a complete novice to this world, and have hardly been on a bike since I was a child. I’ve recently bought a second hand Ancheer electric bike and am loving it.

The first few times I used it all was well but now the battery loses power really quickly. When I try to charge it only 3 of the 5 lights ever illuminate. I have no idea whether the problem is with the charger or the battery - or maybe both!

All advice very welcome, as are suggestions about replacements if that’s required.

Thank you

Battery is either shagged out or is out of balance , it will need a competent person to open and check the battery, from there one can decide if it can be remedied.

If unable to go about the above then one will need to show a pic of the battery to get a reccommend for a replacement.

It is a cheap battery, deliberately labelled with an overstated capacity to mislead unknowing customers.

It made the bike work well enough for long enough to get it sold...!

Buy a half decent battery and go from there. There are many discussions on here about that, perhaps scroll through from most recent and see what you find. Yosepower are not a bad starting point.

Wow - that was quick! Thank you. I’m attaching a couple of photos
It's a joke battery, they use crap cells and one is lucky to see them last 6 months or so. With batteries you get what you pay for and those types are two a penny on Aliexpress .

For a soft pack like that one needs to spend a 150 - 200 quid to get something decent.

I was watching a video on Youtube the other day, in some cases these super cheap batteries can have old knackerd cells in the pack, unconnected, but there to make up the weight and volume.

We have seen it before on here, someone buys a 20ah 21700 soft pack for £80 then within six or seven months it is toast, 52 cells for £80, bms , wiring , interconnetors , shrink wrap plus all the other bits and bobs just don't add up.

  • Oh dear, that battery looks to be as said already, something cheap and nasty from somewhere like Ali Express
  • I would hazard a guess that the previous owner just bought it to be able to sell the bike in working order.
  • But glad to hear that you are enjoying the ebike experience but to continue to do do is going to cost you the price of a decent battery
  • In general principle though, if you had a voltmeter then check that the charger is outputting 42v (the correct charging voltage for a 36v battery).
  • Then check the voltage reading on the yellow battery connector. When fully charged this should also be around 42v.

Thank you all so much for your replies. As a complete novice this is a bit of a minefield so your help is really appreciated
