it's okay the guy is sending me another one.

I was emptying a bit of water out of the battery case of my new cheapo bike before yesterday when one of the wires from the charger socket fell out. I wiggled the second wire and it fell out too, and suddenly I didn't know which pins were positive and negative.

so I put a multimeter on the charger pins to find which is positive and it immediately gave a nasty little buzz so I stopped, possibly a short warning.
I unscrewed the charger plug and looked at the red wire to match the positive on the battery socket and fixed it all up.

when I plug in the charger the red charging light comes on, but it has been charging for more than six hours and it's still red. they are new batteries i don't really know what they do yet, they may take a few cycles to reach their full charge capacity? is it a really bad idea to put a multimeter onto a charger?

thanks for the tip, I have tried again the voltage said 28...good opportunity to try out the new micro multimeter I got in the mail for a fiver, which incidentally I think might be quite good attached to the handlebars to monitor voltage if you wanted.

is 28V too low for a 36V battery? I think my charger is busted it stays permanently red in charging state even when no battery is plugged in...what should I do?

EDIT-okay I just measured the amps from the charger alone and it said zero, so I plugged it in to the battery and placed a multimeter sensors in exactly the right place and I got a massive spark...why is that?

Hi,

is the charger LED red before you plug it into the battery ?, if it is, then sounds like the charger has shorted.

just had a go and the battery seems recharged, I'm wondering if it's just the led sensor that is defunct.
