I am installing the Bafang 48-52v 750w Geared Fat Motor Kit (for front wheel) from Luna and I need your assistance with the connection to my battery.
I find 5 wires at the end of the kit battery connector wire (Positive, Negative and 3 thinner wires Green Blue and Yellow whereas my battery cradle wire has only positive and negative. (see photo attached). What would be the purpose of these thinner wires and do I need some sort of special joining connector for this? Or in fact can I ignore them and just connect the positive and negatives? Forgive my ignorance I am very new.

Many Thanks

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that the extra wires are for connecting a gear sensor. The Bafang should power up just connecting the positive and negative.

Its a hub-motor kit so doesn't need a gear sensor and the colours aren't right either. The question would best be addressed to the vendor.

If I were to guess, I would say that they're for communication with the BMS. Please let us know what your vendor says.

I contacted Luna and to quote the reply 'They serve no purpose at all and can be ignored'. Strange but will just connect up now. Thanks guys for your input, much appreciated

Bafang have mentioned a new system with CANbus communication. I guess that the lead is standardised to meet the new requirement.
