Just been out on a first test run, on the new (second hand) Batribike Granite, first impressions are quite favourable......only went about 1 mile, and while in motion the battery indicator dropped to about half full.....as soon as I stopped, it went back to showing full......my question is, is this normal ?

Yes, as soon as you open the throttle or apply full power in any way, the indicator changes from showing battery content to showing the rate of current drain. Stop using power and it shows the battery content again.

Ah, thanks for that.....so hopefully the battery is in good order......I think a longer journey is called for..........

Yes, no problem. This is fundamentally because batteries are chemical devices, they don't store electricity, they just convert it into a chemical state. But we can't measure that chemical state so we try to measure content using the output voltage which is a very inaccurate way.

We refer to this as voltage sag and it does tend to increase as the battery ages. You will find that as it depletes and the battery voltage decreases, the bike may cut out until the voltage recovers. Using lower power levels and minimal throttle, if you have one, you will suffer this effect less and get better range.

Thanks for that, hoping to go further next trip out, but it does seem that the battery is o.k.....according to Batribike, the batteries for this bike are no longer available, but there are some on Ebay, of the same voltage and amperage (36v 10Ah) if I need to change it......the guy I bought it from assured me that the battery was in good order, but of course you never know......
