I've just been given a Claud Butler Glide 1 ebike, which has a duff battery. It's a 250 Watt alloy rear hub motor with a 34v 10ah rack mount battery, which I can't seem to find a replacement for.

I'm wondering if I can fit a stronger battery, using a conversion kit, or either I'll need to buy a complete electric motor kit?

Any advice would be very welcome. I'm a complete novice when it comes to ebikes.

Hi Susleo,
34v sounds a bit odd, would expect it to be 24v or 36v. Anyway a 36v should do no harm, so the world is your monopedal molusc !
You can either get a new battery c/w case and fit it to your frame. In which case you will need to find the main leads from the battery to the controller to be able to connect in. May need some soldering.
Or you could get the existing one re-celled. Lots on here, including myself, have used Jimmy at Insat international. He will arrange courier pickup of your battery, re cell it (possibly with higher capacity), and courier it back. Come highly recommended.
Put some pics of the bike up showing overall bike and detail of battery labelling and we can be more specific.

Thank you. I've contacted them. Cheers.
