Hi all,

I received a new controller and would like to test it but the bullet connectors don't match. Is it ok to temporarily connect an ebike's red and black power source with crocodile clips to the controller instead of fitting new bullets?

Probably better to cut the connectors off. twist the wires together and insulate them with tape for testing. When you're happy with the testing solder the wires directly and cover with heatshrink tube. Do one colour at a time so that there's no danger of them touching the wrong one. You should never have two bare battery wires at the same time.

Recipe for fireworks if they touch, Isolate and insulate each in turn.

As a temporary measure (as in bench testing type of scenarios, not riding) has anyone used Wago 221 connectors which are spec'd for 20Amp plus?

They're for girls and or girls blouses. Men solder the wires and show off their burnt fingers. Don't forget to change to your method if you transition - there's no point in going into the womens toilets dressed as a women, when your burnt fingers give you away.

I admit to buying those, but not to using them... and will throw them away because of what @saneagle said.

You can save them for your transition. The way things are going, we're all going to have a go at that sooner or later. It's going to be a bit weird. I'm still trying to figure out what happens when all the men become women and all the women become men?

I've just tried them, I feel dirty and ashamed. (they work well)

Our machine overlords won't need either:

Scientists grow whole model of human embryo, without sperm or egg

Human cloning was banned, but now it's allowed if they grow them from eggs. How does that work? If it's not banned, I'm going to make some more friends. I found out how to do it from this book. It's really easy. All you need is some diced meat, human DNA, a food mixer and the right culture medium. The trouble is, the stuff is now guarded by the combat hamsters that won't let me past. I need to figure out how to breed a combat cat do deal with the hamsters first.Does anybody know the best way, or has anyone done one already that I can borrow for a few days?

  • Hmm! - I'm the same but I have used them in domestic electrical installations to great effect but of course in that environment the joints are not subject to the movement/vibration/stresses found on a bike.
  • Despite the comments made here, I'd prefer to see some proper evidence that they would not be suitable for bench testing although as has been said, for proper bike installation there are Anderson, XT30/60/90 connectors and the like and of course soldered joints with heat shrink covering (of which I'm a great fan).

Anything that leaves bare copper wire is dodgy. Copper oxidises in air and will eventually fail. That would be accelerated by any movement in the wire. Obviously wires breaking and leaving bare ends on an electric bike would be very dangerous. Those connectors would be OK for temporary connection for testing or something like that, but I wouldn't use them as a long-term solution. For the same reason, I'd never use crimped connectors on the battery or any power wires without soldering them afterwards.

I cut the barrel connector off this cheap power supply:

...attached Wago 221 connectors to test lights and other things such as:

...or I can quickly attach the barrel connector again. Wago 221 have no resistance my cheap multimeter is capable of detecting.
