why is it only in England that men cannot have a basket on the front of there bike. I bought an electric bike that had a basket and my family and friends told me to take it off. The basket was so convenient, but i took it off as my kids said that they were for girls only. I saw a video on you tube of bikes in china and everyone had a basket men and women,

Yes, this attitude is ridiculous Burt58. It's similar to the way in Britain that step-through bikes are referred to as "ladies" bikes and crossbar ones as "gents" bikes. Nowhere else in Europe is this distinction made, they just view the two frame types as choices to suit differing purposes.

The basket attitude probably persists partly because the British don't utility cycle very much, mainly viewing cycling as a sport or leisure pursuit rather than general transport.

Errrmmm, some one has a wicker basket on his bike. It holds a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread, some Cheshire cheese and a copy of the Grauniad on his way home from the local Co-op. He obviously wishes to remain anonymous ...

In Holland a milk crate or mini wooden crate is the unisex replacement of the basket-it needs some form of front rack to strap it to-if you view Kudoscycles website look at the Duke or Duchess models to see the type of rack needed

I used to use a supermarket metal basket clipped to the adapted rear carrier, got my shopping then clipped it on and cycled home. Did that for several years until they changed to some unsuitable plastic baskets.
