Balance leds current

Hi,
I have lots of Li-on and Li-po batteries. I use them for models and my home made electric bike.

I also use them for small power supplies, and use the balance leads/plug for this. I guessed the max voltage I can use as about 1amp, to give an idea of how I use them.

I've been asked about balance leads. Are they simply connected to between each cell, with no other circuitry? What current is the max output from these. The batteries are all 3 cell, and between 3000mA and 5000mA.

Cheers, Camerart.

There's no circuitry. they're connected directly to the cells. The max current is whatever the cells can give or until the wire melts. 2 or 3 amps is about what the wires can take. For 18650 cells it's about 1 amp per cell in each parallel string unless they're high drain cells. You have to look at the data sheet to see what they can give. Lipos will give all the current you want until the wires burn.

Hi d,
2-3A is well above what I use them for. I'll watch out for smoke though :)

My mate is making some batteries, which he is connecting a balance circuit to, and asked if they are directly connected.
You answered all, thanks.
