January 10, 201610 yr Does using the Bafang BBS02 system mean that you cannot use the front gears (i.e. the gears where the pedals are) of the bike. I seen a video on Youtube of a guy installing a BBS02 and he said his 21 gear bike was now a 7 gear bike because of the change as he couldn't use his three front gears.

Yes, the single chainring of the Bafang BBS02 replaces whatever chainrings are installed on the bike. You will not miss any of them though, due to the shear power of the BBS02 system. You can change the original Bafang chainring to a more suitable one if desired, ranging from a 52T down to a 42T. You can go smaller than a 42T, but need to mess around with adapters. I've got one of these on my BBS02 at the moment, and I've not discovered a hill it won't climb yet http://www.alcedoitalia.it/shop/accessori-bbs/corona-42-denti-per-bafang-centrale-bbs01/
January 10, 201610 yr Author Ok cool. I'm wondering also how does back gear changing work is it automatic or manual. Also can you remove the front gear lever from the handlebars as its no longer needed anymore.

Also can you remove the front gear lever from the handlebars as its no longer needed anymore. You change the rear gears, just like you do on a normal bike. If your bike has 7 rear gears, you will have 7 usable gears, 10 rear geared bike, 10 usable gears and so on. I have taken the front gear lever and cable off mine, but it is recommended to keep the front derailleur in position, to help prevent chain drop.
January 12, 201610 yr Author I found the Youtube video that convinced me gear changing was automatic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyS1hrmxR4w How is this working? Is it just a guy manually changing them I guess?
