Do you think your cat may have sprayed the battery.Could the acid from the cat and the battery points not mix well.Sorry not sure of technical terms for such things.This may account for the cat hissing earlier , could have got a shock from the battery while spraying.
This is very a scary story and goes to show how unpredictable these batteries can sometimes be and how serious the risk of fire and personal injury is.
It would be interesting and perhaps useful to know where the battery was purchased from and with what type of charger it was charged.
