I agree with Boris that cyclists, particularly in inner city built up traffic areas should not be wearing headphones.

The "cycling community" need to remember that more people dislike cyclists that actually like them - aka - "make 'em take a test", "bikes should be taxed", "more fines for jumping red lights" etc comments that you'll find all over the non bike forums.

Saying ban HGV's from city centres but don't expect me to do anything won't cut any ice I'm afraid.

So is Boris saying that Deaf people are not allowed to cycle on the public highway? What if rider is deaf in one ear ! I'm surprised he hasn't got the disabled lobby on the warpath too.
Then for BALANCE drivers must have window open, stereo and mobile phone off when vehicle in motion, eh? ;-)

Cyclists are in much greater danger Mike, so they need all the senses available to avoid accidents. Hearing a diesel engine right alongside to their right is a good reminder that they are in a dangerous spot and should get out of it.

A truck driver isn't going to hear a cyclist on the left no matter what he does, so your suggestion, as ever, has no relevance to the spate of accidents.

I think deaf people can and do cycle the road systems. I am sure they would give anything to have their hearing restored and probably cycle with great attention to other road users.

On the other hand there is a small proportion of cyclists that don headphones and choose to ride deaf to the surroundings.

In the park, fair enough. On the road this can only be a sign of low intelligence.
