Ants in the kitchen!

I've had ants in the kitchen before but not in February. What does this mean? I tried to take some photos for evidence but , damn, those things are small. I put some sugar down expecting them to congregate (for a group photo) but they didn't go for it. Umm..perhaps its a special strain .. I'll try some honey next ...

I have fruit flies coming off the satsumas here in Spain, bear in mind the last few days its been -4 here!

Damped sugar is more attractive to them, but honey works better.
