I mentioned this a while ago. It's still the same thing, but a slightly different method.
I had a call today from "Microsoft Support" because they had detected problems with my computer. I've had these calls about a dozen times before, but I was bored so I thought I'd string them along for a bit on the basis that while they're trying to sort me out, they're not scamming anyone else. I managed to keep it going for a while with "my battery's just run out. I'll have to go and get the charger from my Bentley".
This time they took me to a website www.mssupport.in , which I guess is in India or Indonesia. It looks very similar to the Microsoft support one. He asked me to download an exe file from a link on it and then run it, but of course it won't run on my Linux computer because it's a Windows executable. It took him a while to figure that out. I was just playing dumb. He then started to offer other ways that he could take control of my computer, which probably wouldn't have worked, but I didn't want to take any chances, so I then told him what I thought of him and he put the phone down.
So, here's the warning again. Don't download anything because they will have total remote control of your computer. They can delete stuff, mess it up and get any sensitive data you have.
I think I might reconfigure an old laptop with fake bank details etc and fill it with viruses for next time they call.
