Well after my postal disaster with the Cytronex I decided I'd try before I buy. Had a quick visit to London and arranged to try agattu in Richmond Park, but rain all day meant that didn't happen. Citrus very kindly came to my rescue and let me have a shot of his Agattu and guided me round a nice scenic route with flats and hills. Ordered the Agattu shortly after. Ran it standard for a couple of weeks. Didn't need 1st gear so swapped cog for 19t which made old second gear the new first gear and gave a higher top.

Much has been written about Agattu so I won't go over it all again. A couple of things I've particularly appreciated are;
The 'natural' feel of the Panasonic system.
How wonderful it is to have my 4 year old daughter on the back and it feel nice and stable and no more difficult to ride than without her weight. I fitted a Bobike Maxi seat and it works a treat. It was much easier to get it fitted a bit further back than on my ordinary bike (as in not electric assist as opposed to Penny Farthing :) )and not have my feet clashing with hers.
Riding through town is great. It's so much easier to get up to speed that there's not the same temptation to try and maintain momentum and potentially take risks. Plus getting up to speed quicker eliminates that wobbly start that happens with a load.

Very enjoyable 300 miles so far. Top bike

Good to hear how much you are enjoying the Agattu Andy.

I think its true to say that Agattu owners have been even more enthusiastic about their bike than Pro Connect owners, so perhaps Kalkhoff's first e-bike design was the definitive one. It's truly one of the greats of e-biking.

Glad you like your bike.
The best thing about the Panasonic system for me is that you dont really have to worry about weight.
Extra weight will of course effect the speed of hill climbing and the range, but you can load it up like a donkey, stick it on high mode and it will ride away like a bike half it's weight.

regards Bob.

I've been following this thread with interest, as I'm interested in the Agattu, (but more so the Pro Connect), and I wonder if it's not too impertinent Bob, may I enquire as to how much you weigh? Sadly, I've let my weight creep up to 17 stone. As I'm 6'2" it doesn't look too bad on me, (- aww who am I kidding - I'm a fat b**t**d!) If I'm heavier than you, then I'll get much worse returns, although I am strong on endurance, (technique now playing more of a key role than physical fitness).

Me too

After putting an Alien kit in my home built bike I was going to sell my Agattu as I couldn't really justify two e-bikes. Teething problems with my Alien have meant I am using my Agattu again for just now - and it is great. I guess I was just getting lazy using my throttle controlled Alien and there was some novelty value too. I have decided to keep both as they are so enjoyable in completely different ways. I just couldn't bring myself to sell my Agattu, so I guess that says it all really.

Its OK Danny.
I dont mind telling you I was 14st 7lbs when I got the bike (June 9th).
Now im 13stone 7lbs and dropping.
I was loosing too much weight, too quickly and I had to eat lots to compensate cus my blood sugars were through my boots and I was suffering burnout.
I've always had to watch what I eat cus of my weight. Not any more.
I pedal about 80 to 100 miles a week now via my commute and leisure rides.

Regards Bob

Thanks Bob. Just imagine; if you loaded your panniers up for a two week tour, and including the proverbial kitchen sink, your combined weight would still be less than me, in nothing but my stocking feet!

I'm really taken with the Pro Connect, and I just marvel at the technology involved that helps those of you whose posts I've found and read, regarding assisted speed and distance. I would not get the returns you have posted, so could end up disappointed. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for super-heavy riders and the results they post on here to help me come to a decision.

Funny that 'Donkey' reference Burncycle. Whenever I get back from work I tell the little'un I'm going to feed the horse! And Bob, hope I can loose a stone too (well two actually  ) by riding to work.

Citrus, like I said it was riding yours that clinched it for me. Keeping both sounds good, you'll have 2 now for different moods:)

Danny-K, my (ahem) stats are not dissimilar to yours - I am also an inveterate (and happy) smoker, and have only recently taken up cycling again after 20-odd years. I have had my Agattu for a couple of weeks, and it has been an outright pleasure to ride, both alone and with my 2.5 year old on board. It's almost sinful.

It also feels like a bike for the (ahem, again) powerfully-built - solid and with a lordly riding position.

Brill - thanks for that encouragement L/gaze.

Citrus, I'm considering the Alien 36v kit as a low cost way of getting into e-biking. Re your comment about 'teething problems' with yours, can you elaborate?

Any user feedback much appreciated - reviews I've read to date seem fairly positive....

Hi,

My kit is the 24 volt one. The motor is an 8fun Suzhou Bafang motor which is well made. Bob of Alien bikes is really helpful and on the case. The problems I have encountered were a duff battery that was replaced almost instantly. The bike worked great for about 120 miles then the controller failed (in very heavy rain). Bob replaced this too - the next day. The bike is working perfectly again, but I am making sure things are better waterproofed. I have also ordered and recently received a LiFePo 24v 16ah battery from Li Ping, unfortunately the charger for this is not working so I have been unable to try this battery out yet - but the range should be increased quite a bit. Here is the link to my post about my alien bike
