Okay this one isn't mine, but even after my first nine mile ride on it this evening on our icy cold roads, I already really rate it.
Someone has kindly lent me a Scott Sub 10 with Alfine 8 hub and gates belt drive. The mudguards which incidentally have a rated load capacity of 35kg when fitted with a direct mounted rack, make this bike a bit of a Marmite bike. Remove those, and it would look something reasonable, but would loose it's ability to be a winter ride.
This bike is almost completely silent to ride, and if it wasn't for the click of the gear change at the handle bar end, and the slight tyre noise from it's slicks, then it would be. It's kind of eerie riding such a quiet bike.
After just my first short ride, I'm a bit surprised that this type of bike aren't more popular.
My one negative about it, is that being used to mountain bike gearing, I would have liked to have had a slightly lower first gear, and the top gear spins out too early for fast high speed progress. Still a superb and fun bike though, which has a lovely solid and durable feel about it. Despite it being fractionally too small for me, I might well try and buy it at some stage in the future.
One things for sure, I am very unfit. My average speed was under a very low 13mph for the 9 mile ride. I'd like to blame it on the fact that I have been working out in the cold all day up on a roof, and also the icy road conditions, but I'd be lying. I need to get fitter!
