So I bought this controller https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/24V-60V-1500W-Electric-Bike-E-bike-Scooter-Brushed-Brushless-Motor-Controller-ST/253823287117?hash=item3b190bff4d:m:mww9KOJZR8P_2I02FqFI3wA
Along with a suntour nexus crankset and thumb throttle, Pas sensor
Bought the crimp connectors to match the controller as the motor wire is hard to find and the wires from there go straight into the controller. I cut the wires and added the crimps and hooked it all up. Changed the crankset and added a standard pedal sensor. Throttle and new lock on grips. Now I have done a lot of riding on it here is my findings:
Range on full whack is about 25 miles, less with big hills
This controller sucks. Speed readout is completely wrong and if it weren't for hydraulic brakes I'd run into traffic due to power when I don't want it
Higher speeds means I can get air off anything, a little slanted kerb is a great jump lol
Wheelies are harder without a torque sensor as the motor threatens to buck you off, cover that rear brake!
I had one cutoff when I first converted it, nothing since! I had a lot with the suntour system so a standard controller can reduce the cutout issue massively
So other than the battery life sucking on full belt the conversion is a winner! So much more enjoyable getting full assist no matter what I put in. The throttle is only really useful on the flat and light hills but that's to be expected. I can probably still push 40 miles on reduced power settings but lack of torque sensor makes economic modes a lot less desirable as the won't give the boost even when you stomp on the pedals.
