Out for a gentle, pleasant ride this evening - and it was lovely - when there was a strange noise. To begin with I thought it was from the nearby railway line - but no, nothing there.

As it got louder, I saw it:

30919

(Technically, it is not on the main Sustrans 4 but a little branch that serves as a link into town.)

I wondered how they got it on the Austrians path, as they invariably have gates/barriers to stop motor bikes and cars on, but seeing as is a Steam road roller, I expect it didn't have any difficulty going through them!

Did you ask him if it recharged as he peddled?
I was all too happy for him to get by as fast (ha!) as he could.

I remember as a child seeing such things and almost liking the smell of the burning coal. Is it because they use different coal? Or that I am older? The smell was pretty rank.

This little bit is open to traffic for a few yards. Behind me is a locked gate with narrow cycle gap. Ahead, it changes into a shared use path alongside a road.

It's obviously for crushing any dongled or otherwise illegal e-bikes that race along there. :)
