I got knocked of my bike while cycling on a cycle lane, by a motorist making a left turn across the cycle lane just after passing me, of course it was pointed out that I was to blame because I don't pay road tax. Thankfully the end of my quill pedal left a reminder for the driver about the advantages of not paying "vehicle excise duty".

You could answer with its a zero emissions vehicle so is exempt

In my experience lots of people aren't really aware of the size of their vehicles or what happens when you go past someone closely at like 30-40mph.

After getting a e-bike I'm actually noticing less near hits apart from people misjudging how fast I'm going and deciding that they MUST overtake me and then trying to merge into my side.

Saying that, there's plenty of bad cyclists who ride like jerks on shared paths and pedestrians who just walk out in to traffic without looking.

Unfortunately they've got so used to i.c vehicles and the noise they make, they judge if it's safe to cross with their ears.

As the use of silent fully electric cars increases I foresee a big increase in pedestrian accidents until they relearn how to cross roads safely.

One of the things I have noticed as I am getting older is my awareness of traffic at complex busy junctions has changed so i always stop and make sure I look twice before walking out at busy times.
I am also finding drivers are stopping to let me cross.. must look older than I feel..

That will never happen unless you turn off all the cell phone towers... :D

Here the older you look the less they stop. Secret weapon? Walk a dog, they stop for dogs not for people...

It's exactly the same with me on both points, but as at 82 I'm an old codger I can't complain!

Back to the subject in question. A little controlled random weaving encourages cars to allow a bit more room..
I often do this when I hear a car coming up astern, a little judicious wobbling never did anyone any harm.

I did my little flat road, keep legs in shape 28 km ride thanks to brilliant sunshine today. On the way back I passed a pedelec! I hope I left him enough room when passing... :D

Older guy on a Giant step through. He came back a couple of times on the uphill bits but not within 300 metres and on each downhill section he disappeared from the rear view mirror.

On the way out I pushed a bit and for a while I had a lycra, who had sprinted to catch me, in my rear wheel out of the wind. I eventually got winded myself and he passed. Despite the lungs I am apparently still in reasonable shape.

So much here is familiar. My previous Scott was written off by a 4x4 hitting the rear of the bike while I was in a marked cycle lane. Unfortunately they drove off before we had a chance to ‘discuss’ the matter. By some irony I was riding a different route from my usual, having decided the 20 mph traffic calmed “quiet route” was a safer option that the main road that I usually take.

Speaking of 4x4s

Normally I'd ride around the potholes and drain at that point but was forced over them this time.

It's become a bit of a joke with my wife, when she gets home from work she asks if I got another video today.

That sucks. I got clipped by a guy who had a ******* comedy horn. To give people credit the car in front of him tried to box in him to stop him from leaving while I tried to get his door open but he drove off.

Reported it to the police but as I wasn't injured they absoloutly did not care.

e: talking about the police they're useless. I had an accident (entirely my fault and not on a e-bike) in front of a police officer. I had a huge hole in my knee and could see bone and the officer said he couldn't be bothered to help because he didn't want to do the paper work. I had to walk to the hospital.
