Hi, Can anyone recommend a low weight, low resistance front hub kit? We have two bikes to convert, one with 26" wheel and one with 27.5" wheel. I've ordered a swytch kit but then I thought I might be able to achieve the same for less. I've found some fairly light batteries on ebay. These are low capacity but the journey is only 6miles and the main concern is additional weight.
I would like to try and keep the motor weight to a max of 2kg. I've seen the yose kit but they don't specify a weight (or stock a 27.5").

Thanks

For a light weight motor sub 2kg one will have to buy one from topbikekit.
The G370 from bafang is a good little motor and I can vouch for it's unpowered riding ability with the 1:14:6 internal gear reduction (it rides effortless unpowered) I have the 201rpm 36v motor and run it both 10s & 12s. I haven't tackled any hills yet but it pulls my 80kg weight and a 30kg rear pannier/rack load of heavy cat litter without problems, other wise Aikema have a couple of small front offerings.

With light motors one has to expect less performance then one of it's larger brothers, though if one is a light weight it will perform like a larger motor.
The G370 is much the same size as my Alfine 8 +/- 1mm.

The only incline so far travelled is a 1:15 underpass rise of approx.15m in length full loaded at 9mph.

Soon it will be used for towing my flat bed trailer with gear, when spring arrives and the beekeeping season gathers pace again.

Going back to a light kit in most cases one will have to cobble one together separately when wanting a light motor and specific wheel size as the wheel will most likely have to be built.

No.

I bought mine before Covid and build all my own wheels, nearly all the good stuff comes via China sellers if one doesn't want to pay for dear parts or kits.

Small motors tend to be for bespoke builds or kits like the Swytch which are not very good value for money imv, vfm imv is dependant on hoe you look at things and ones own ability.
I simply followed a few tutorials on wheel building and then started my own building, the first one was a bit of a failure on the road but since that one, every other one since has got far better and now building a wheel is like lacing my shoes up.
