Alpine Tilt Trike, all seems ok but general failure to proceed!?

Featured Replies

Hi just acquired a second hand Alpine Tilt Trike in need of repair for my wife to use in a semi-disability scenario. It has pedelec, throttle and walk power modes. I took a bit of a punt on this being reasonably competent electrically and mechanically, also given that the supplier is active and not too far away in Leicester from me in Leeds so I fancied my chances. But they have a, hopefully temporary, problem and are closed until August so I am casting around for assistance.

Purchased by the original owner in 2017, according to the LCD screen it has done 248 miles, I can offer the following information....

  • The battery seems to charge ok to green light showing on charger, it is a 10.4Ah 36v and the post charge standing voltage is 41.7v
  • LCD display is a king-meter it seems to work fine and displays appropriate responses to all menu sections.
  • The motor is mounted in the front 20” wheel and is marked as a BFSWXB36V250W255R 20-1603070001. It does not run in pedal assist mode motor, throttle mode or walk mode however the “current used” display shows usage increasing with throttle operation up to 450w max, but there is no motion or noise.
  • If you try to run motor with brake applied it gives error code 25 (I assume that this is normal if not slightly cryptic behaviour not mentioned in the manual!)
  • I have checked over all the wiring and connections and can find no breaks or chafing although motor feed wire is quite tightly bent at the access point into axle stem. however this could be normal.

Can anyone please advise on a diagnostic strategy to identify the fault and on a likely source of replacement parts such as motor and controller, my guess is that it is the motor that is at fault, but how to test it?

The hub motor wire connectorb ( should be one on th front fork rhs), make sure it is 100% pushed full together.

Disconnect the brake sensors at the connectors and try again.

If still no joy one may have to suspect a controller issue.

In need of repair depends on what the original issue was, at some stage the seller may be able to shed light on it.
