March 1, 200917 yr Always alone for last three years but before that occasionally with a neighbour and friend who then moved to Sheffield. Still in touch and he's off to New Zealand in a few days time with his wife for a month away. .
March 1, 200917 yr Just wondered - Do many of us generally ride alone or normally in company? -------------------------------------------------------------------------- on my own unless we are out on the tandam........and even then i like to have my own space and stay 2 feet ahead at all times...
March 1, 200917 yr Usually cycle on my own, which I don't mind. I have tried to get the wife interested in cycling (bought her two new bikes in the last 4 years) but she’s not keen at all, so I've given up trying. .
March 1, 200917 yr Alone. But I am only going to the shops or to the stables mostly. And I can't keep up with my husband on his 'real bike' as he calls it to accompany him anywhere interesting. That 'real bike' of his can really really shift--up hill and down dale, for miles. No batteries required. :o If I am going to 'ride over the New Forest' for leisure purposes, then I prefer the horse.
March 1, 200917 yr Mostly cycle together on our Pro Connects we gave each other as retirement presents....Best present I've ever had Regards Gerry
March 1, 200917 yr sometimes alone when I usually go for photography but I have a lot of friends who like bicycling and also my brother has an electric bike so most of the time I cycle with friends
March 1, 200917 yr Alone as a commuter. My wife cycles and we do use the same first two miles but need to be at work at different times, so we never start at the same time and we return at completely different times
March 1, 200917 yr My pal in Warlingham is heavily into road bikes, and thinks an e-bike to be an abomination of the Devil, so not much chance there..... I suspect he's more worried that I'll come past him on the climbs too.
March 1, 200917 yr always alone, but I meet a lot of people on my local cycle track here just outside Caernarfon and have a chat, so a journey can sometimes take a while!!!
March 1, 200917 yr Always alone. But as Michael says you often meet people en route. I tend to have a number of circular routes that I follow through the countryside and so far I have met up with an elderly chap who has to walk two miles a day following successful treatment for a heart attack, and another pensioner who always takes his dog for a walk. And there are always things to see. On one trip last week I came across a car in a ditch with the occupants just crawling out followed a mile or two later by a house on fire with four fire engines blocking a country lane. It's never dull on your own! Rod

March 2, 200917 yr It reminds me of that Russian curse: 'May you live in interesting times!' Rog. Not Russian, often said to be Chinese but references generally point to it being Western in the early 20th century, from either America or Britain. .
March 2, 200917 yr Always on my own, well who else is going to out for a ride with me at 3am just to have a break & get out for a bit? I love riding in the middle of the night here in the countryside - very few cars, rarely see anyone walking/cycling unless it's around pub closing time Fri/Sat, and with my 60-LED 'headlight' I can easly go along dark lanes and won't crash into foxes, badgers or whatever some scrote has left in the middle of the path (like the broken off bollard I once hit at 15mph in the dark before I had my new light)

My poor little moped needed all the help I could give it, from the pedels, to get up Sanderstead Hill. Not sure how the PB would handle it.

Flecc and I were comparing notes about Sanderstead Hill last week as he lives 'round the corner' from there. Much more fun going down it, we decided. Rog.
March 2, 200917 yr i am usually alone but very occasionally my 17 year old son will ride withe me...but can't keep up ! and even more rarely my 14 year old daughter and wife....i usually end up pushing them with my hand in the middle of their back....

I'm alright though, since my Q bike will climb the length of Sanderstead Hill and even Purley Downs Road from the Royal Oak Centre without help from me if I'm not in the mood for a workout. Just open the throttle and sit back. .
March 2, 200917 yr I always go out on my own to the shops might be because i am single:D still dont see many ebikers out and about though i do get quite a few questions about my kalkhoff Nigel.

Given the number of e-bikers who seem to cycle around Croydon/Sanderstead/Adddington/Warlingham, maybe we'll have to set up a club for weekend rides. I know some nice routes around here and would enjoy having some company. Anyway.. back on topic... I'm probably split about 50/50 whether I'm alone or with company. Much of the time my companion is my 2-year old daughter sat behind me, but having just come back from a week in Portugal where my wife joined me for 35 miles of cycling, I'm hopeful I can get her along soon.

I can do an oil-change on the 4x4 though. :o (The Morris Minor, sadly, being a thing from the very dim and distant past. )
