Question.
What is the law on riding bike and using phone?
Common sense says, don't ride one handed as asking for trouble.

Re phones in cars. Don't think any fine or ban will stop there use tbh. More technology to come not invented yet that will cause more problems I guess.

I dont believe there is specific rules on this, although if you did it your really just advertising that you want the police to pull you over for riding in a dangerous fashion.

Of course if your riding an eBike that is not road legal, say for instance the maximum 15.5mph limit has been increased, then the eBike is now a vehicle, and I would suspect you could win 6 points on your driving license.

Probably wont stop it all together, I would agree.

However, I would be surprised if the introduction of a minimum one year driving ban did not result in a significant reduction of the offences.
I'm in agrreance here , harsher penalties (temporary bans) for these danagerous offences likely woul dbe more effective then a paltry fine and points . 1 year may be to much but certainly 3 - 6 months to start with, then longer bans on any repeat offending.

It does appear that any consequences for riding an illegal ebike (motor vehicle in law) are not the same as other motor vehicles , in most part all we hear are of confiscation and very occassionally one may hear of a fine and points but they seem to be rare.

Riding one handed is something that wouldn't happen in an ideal world, but we don't live in one.
Removing a hand to signal a turn, adjust sunglasses, or scratch an itch are all part of normal riding for me.

As a youngster, riding no-hands was a common way to fine tune cycle control, and the gear change was on the downtube so even "sensible" riders couldn't keep both hands on the bars at all times.

There is a big difference as to how quickly the errant hand can become re-available for control. Unless you don't value your phones very much it is quite a long time for most phone uses. Plus in many cases the rider is looking at the phone instead of the road.

I fear it will take a huge number of volunteer Kamikazi cyclists sporting their own AI cameras, to be crashed into by drivers texting and getting killed or distressingly maimed, to bring about such a sensible change.

Probably; and if your short of votes, you dont want to go annoying drivers.
