advice on izip upgrade

sorry i am probably posting in the wrong section but am new to this so please forgive. i have recently purchased a secondhand izip cb26 which i already like. for a motorcyclist that is a huge compliment. the problem is i live in shanklin and use the bike to go through ventnor. for those of you who do not know this area it is the equyivelent of cycling up and down a cliff face with gradients reaching 1/4. the izip tends to strugle a little with this. soon i wsih to be adding a trailer to this bike which is almost certain to be to much for this 200 watt motor. could you please advise me what upgrade motors are available for this bike and where i might source one from.

You're in the right section delmumbles and welcome to the forum. That's a nice IoW site name you've chosen there, and those hills are certainly steep.

There's not so much flexibility with the Currie motors choice as there was in the past. At one time they were insanely powerful, but overheated, and have been reduced in power a couple of time to overcome those problems. It is reasonably powerful at about 450 watts peak, the 200 watts rating just being an average figure for legal purposes.

In the UK you could try Electrodrive to see if they can help.

However, the best source is in the USA at EVdeals.

There is another possibility. One trailer is made with a Currie motor fitted inside it's offside wheel. More expensive that way, but it would double your power when towing. Strictly speaking having two motors like that is illegal, but so is having an overpower motor, and given the motor sound, it's likely that it wouldn't be detectable as two, just the usual Currie buzzing.

Izip performance

Delmumbles, Hi.

I was relating my experience of the CB26 here recently and had some concerns that I might not be getting a full battery charge. What I find is that after charging, even leaving the charger attached overnight on a new battery, when I connect to the bike I only ever get 1 green LED lit up.

What's your experience of this? If any.
