I am planning to build my own battery to fit my bike and ensure quality cells but am not sure what the discharge rate of cells should be for the battery to be sufficient to power the motor in the title? Can anyone advise? TIA

The TSDZ is typically 16 - 18a max current draw so depends on how much mah capacity you propose and how many cells in parallel, typically any good 10a cell will suffice but it will depend on what is actually available. One doesn't have to use 10a rated cell and no issue with using a higher current rated cell.

For my nice 250w G370 hub I simply needed a lighter battery which can give up to 30 miles range, so opted for a simple 12s 2p configuration for 6ah using genuine 20a rated LG HG2's for my 22a rated controller, If I want more range I carry a 8ah 10s lipo as I use the batteries on alternate charge/discharge usage locally.

Typically my set up will output more watts then the 48v tsdz2.
