Advice needed over possible Scam

Featured Replies

To start with Merry Christmal to all..

A few days ago I received a text saying DHL will be delivering my package on the 27th and will need a signiature, with an attached link.. Well I am expecting two high value items, one from OnBike UK and one from Cyliq Australia so moved the text to my pc and clicked the link..

Everything looked ok except the package origin which is "hisgadget dotcom" with pickup from "inspiring world" in Hong kong which has full tracking history from Hong Kong through Germany and is now at E. Midlands awaiting delivery to my address but with no name.

I do order all sorts of small low value items off of eBay and Amazon from China and Hong Kong but am in a really bad place with illness so sometimes forget about them, but I have been through all my accounts (Amazon, Ebay, Bank, E-mail) and cand find any record of anything. Then my OnBike packaged arrived, and my Cycliq package has been put back to mid January.

At this point I became concerned about the link so accessed DHL through Google and added the tracking number and it still shows tracking history exactly the same.

So far PC seems unafected and have had no virus prompts

Googled Inspiring World and it seems to be a real company..

We have a Hospital appointent on the 27th so put the delivery back to the 28th .

Hopefully this is not a scam, but is something simple that silly me has forgotten about and i will feel a right plonker having posted my silliness for all to see, so can anyone offer constructive advice?

Thanks.

You should never click on any attachments to emails, especially fro DHL. The only tme I got a virus on my PC was by doing that. A delivery that I had just received was missing a part. I got a message the next day, that said something like, " We have information about your DHL delivery, click the link for details".

i didnt get an email, just a text. the tracking number is seperate to the link so can just be typed in.

I run a paid version of malwarebytes, BT Virus Protecyt (McAfee) and windows defender. No Flags

I think they are the self same speakers we were seated near at our works Christmas dinner  what was Christmas background music at the back of the room was unbearable at our table  and the food was like 1970's school dinners aswell

Oh yes, I also get parcels turning up at work from China that I'd forgoten I'd brought ;). It's down to my method of shotgun buying, bid penny's on lots of identical items (only with free post though) The latest wins included elastic shoe laces 6p posted, fleece neck warmer 49p and a realy good 1W rear light for 99p. Yes sometimes I end up with multiple items but I've still only spent penny's ;)

Best buy so far was 40 X 250mah lipo batterys for............................£1.99

Perfect for my small RC toys

Auction tip,

bid on items that end on a national ( or international ) holiday.

New Year's Eve around midnight could be a good one. No you don't need to be online at that time just bid in advance and go to the pub ;)

Things like that wouldn't come by DHL and need a signature tho.. and, if you look through your purchase history they will be there..

I will see tomoz when it comes. I am expecting to be asked to pay in some way.. tax, duty or sumsuch

Just had mail from Cycliq (Australia) to say package has been despatched earlier than anticipated and gives the same DHL tracking on my text message... So now I know!!

A bit late to let me know 6 days after i received the notice from DHL and 4 days after they tell me me its mid January.. and interesting that its shipped direct from Hong Kong.

I know we all grumble about cheap chinese rubish and I know some of the better stuff is made there as well, but, what actually isnt made in Chine/Hong Kong?

... what actually isn't made in Chine/Hong Kong?

- Almost all of my fishing gear (France, Germany, USA, ...)

- my refrigerator (south Korea)

- my washing machine (same brand as refrigerator but made in Poland)

- my bike lights are made in Germany

- etc...

Manufacture outside of China is still alive

what actually isnt made in Chine/Hong Kong?

The question has two meanings:

If you mean "What doesn't China/Hong Kong make?", then very little, they make almost everything other than certain low volume high tech items.

But if you mean what do others have that China/Hong Kong hasn't made, then it's an immense range of items. Most of the world's transport for example, cars, trucks, buses, trains, ships and aircraft.
