A pedelec wiki? Or have I crashed the German Pedelec Forum?

Following a link given in another post today I started to read the German Language Pedelec forum, using the Google page translator I hasten to add. In fact I got so enthusiastic I registered so I could try asking questions. But now I find that its url is unreachable from here. Even pictures from the German forum which have been linked so as to display on this UK forum site don't show. Has the site crashed, or have they blocked me? Is anyone else able to reach the forum?

It is a pity I can no longer see it, since I noticed that had a wiki, and I was studying how they use it, and wondering whether such a thing could be of use to this forum's community.

One of the problems I find with the discussions here is that it is often tricky to get a quick good overview of a topic. I have seen that there are things already being done here to help people locate important material:
  1. We have a FAQ section of the forum here, but it is limited in content and I tend find not very so much useful in it. So like many I land up asking questions in this section of the forum.
  2. Flecc for example has a list of useful posts and links which he uses to post answers to peoples' questions, and of course many others do likewise. So that is what is good about this place - by asking one quickly gets a lot of food for thought.
I wondered whether a wiki - like wikipedia - but with only forum members registered to edit could be used to produce some good articles to cover many FAQs - at least in non-controversial areas.

While I was able to access the German wiki I could see they did not actually use their wiki as a place to synthesise and publish articles like wikipedia. Instead they appeared to be using it more as a commented collection of links to posts in the main forum which gave good answers to FAQs. It appeared more of a navigation tool than a place to create articles.

This UK forum is obviously a place for discussion. But is any one here at all interested in making use of a wiki in some way, maybe on the German model as an index to posts if not a place to co-operatively produce articles?

What is the problem? I am mod of the pedelecforum and main writer of the german pedelec-Wiki.

Google translate for the Pedecforum-Wiki is quite acceptable:

I found another vBulletin site running which has incorporated a wiki:

Página principal - Under-Linux.Org Wiki

We could implement something like this if the interest is there?
That Portuguese website had my google translator struggling. I did not like what I saw very much.

Googling for vbulletin wiki I came up with a fairly cheap commercial program that at least has reasonable test content in a demo wiki -- one can register and try using the demo wiki.

But it is not worth proceeding with if there are not a number of people who feel that they would contribute. I assume that we have no wikipedia editors here, or at least if we do, they don't see the need for tutorial articles and maybe other types of article here.

I have had experience of setting up Mediawiki and using it in a collaborative historical project with a handful of contributors. So if you don't want to compromise your choice of forum software, it could always be done in a separate web area should the demand ever emerge in the future.

Hi 10mph,

Excellent find there! I like the integration with the new vBulletin we'll be using and it fits with what I have in mind for the site so I've purchased the Premium version.

I'll get it set up, if you want to have a play around on a test site let me know.

Russ,
It was a lucky find. I will register and try out the demo site during the week. I will be happy to help in testing.

Just found this. The reason I have reactivated thread is because for a few days I have not been able to get on German pedelec. Kasparsky (virus software) keeps on saying their is a threat when trying to use Google automatic translator...Any ideas please?

Hmm.....Seems OK now! was starting to suffer from withdrawal symptoms:)

One worrying thing I read on there recently is that nearly all 2012 Bosch models sold out, so looking even more unlikely that we will see many (if any) in the UK other then Haibike for next year.
