Fascinating videos d8veh, so does perpetual motion exist?

The comment about the magnets eventually depolarising is interesting and it would be nice to see how long the devices would continue to rotate and if the they or versions of them could be harnessed for a practical purpose.

The resistance of a generator added to the mag wheel, would need to upscale it to the size of the london eye.

Agh but there are generators and there are generators (it's all up to the scale)..... A small dc motor connected either directly to the axle or maybe via gears to the hub would / should be capable of powering a daisy chain of led's for emergency lighting or maybe even charging a single cell nicad, enough small machines charging = a lot of useable power

Now if we built enough to cover a small county maybe like Essex then it could be better than wind power.... One problem is that the noise would drive the people in the neighbouring counties crazy

According to my other-half, when the demonstrator gently pulls the magnet out, he confers the initial input of kinetic energy. The iron ball also gets additional potential energy when raised. Its optimum height is reached at about time index 1:40. The wheel will now decelerate, albeit slowly.
Without further hand movement from the demonstrator, the ball will eventually lose height.
The demonstrator will either have to 'pump' the wheel by moving the magnet towards the ball then back to raise the ball back to its optimum height or the wheel will eventually stop in about 2 minutes, judging by the speed it was decelerating.
The best example of perpetual motions is our own universe. We don't know where the initial input of energy comes from nor can we prove that it will eventually stop dead. Man made perpetual devices don't work - only what God did in the beginning seems to. BTW, Essex noise already drives neighbouring counties nuts.....

Your other half is quite correct, but he hasn't explained the first one. I'll give him a clue: That device on the base is superfluous to the normal operation, so must be used for something else.

Explanation for the first video: the magnet is used to give a false impression that some useful work could be produced by the device.
In reality, the magnet could not produce any useful output. A small amount of energy is transferred from the wheel to the magnet at the base of the device as it rises during the first half revolution, this same amount is transferred from the magnet back to the wheel when it is allowed to drop back to the floor in the second half. If left alone, friction will convert the initial input of energy to heat and the device will stop after a while.
(Quite enough serious stuff for a Sunday evening methinks.....Hatti)
