I also got that promotion. I suppose some might like it but in practical terms surely bonkers?

Why do people want to re-create crap? I remember old TV's with rolling screens and needing the odd thump.

Now we have digital with pixelating screens no end of thumping will not fix.

Cut tree trunks for wheels next?

That boom in microcomputers in the early '80s brought a whole generation of programmers, which is hy UK leads the world in game design. Since then, you no longer need to program the computers to get the game, so now we have a new generation that are bloody good at playing games instead.

They're already being discounted on ebuyer:

If anyone feels the need to relive that era, then there's plenty of free Spectrum emulators that run on PCs, together with almost every game for them. http://www.worldofspectrum.org/emulators.html

Dave's quite right in my case, it was a £175 48k Spectrum that first got me into programming, which then become quite a well paid career until I retired.

That was a period when total familiarity with a programming language and a proven track record of systems development projects was far more sought after by employers than academic IT qualifications.

Happy days.....
