A Christmas Story

Apparently, sales of hoverboards, recently discussed in Pedelecs, are likely to go through the roof this Christmas, in spite of the fact that the Fire Service has been able to identify them as the single cause of at least three house fires in recent times.

There's an interesting report here of such a fire, on this occasion concerning a chap by the name of Cade, no relation, I hope, to the forum's very own member of the Cade clan.

ps I note that today's news reveals that customs officers have stopped a load of them coming into the UK.

That reminds me, must pay a visit to Rotus-Motus in the town center. This new shop was opened and fully endorsed by Mr Robert Buckland, Member of Parliament for Swindon South. Mr Buckland is also the Solicitor General for England and Wales.

Unbelievable! What is it about our MPs these days? They just seem able to walk into foolish trouble all the time. Perhaps it's little wonder that we have to struggle so hard to succeed as a country with such leadership.

It totally caught fire too! Not just caught fire.

Not aware of this distant and cadet Cade branch in the colonies. The most illustrious Cade being my namesake the Australian shrink, or trick cyclist John Cade who pioneered lithium treatment for bipolar disorder...

Oddly enough that piece was written by someone called Chip Fryer or some weird name like that….

No flecc, I think it's perfectly believable when you look around at the standard of MP by whom people are represented.

When you watch them being interviewed on TV or listen to them on the wireless, it quickly becomes evident that many of them are bereft of any intellectual capacity. While it's the usual practice for media pundits to try to embarrass MPs by putting them on the spot with difficult questions, the lack of talent and imagination displayed by most of these public servants in responding is frightening.

I'm afraid I cringe, for example, whenever I listen to the clueless Philip Hammond, just as I did with the over-promoted, talentless William Hague before him. It's no wonder our efforts at diplomacy abroad so often fall on deaf ears these days. I think the last Foreign Secretary I can remember who displayed any real talent and imagination, sufficient to warrant credibility from overseas administrations was Robin Cook around the turn of the century.

Last night's voting outcome must be very disturbing to every right-minded person who looks back on similar events from that same chamber previously. The Chilcot inquiry still hasn't published its findings after being commissioned by Gordon Brown in 2009 yet we have politicians whom, it seems, cannot get us into another war quick enough.

As you rightly say flecc, our politicians don't seem to learn from mistakes and continue to blithely walk into foolish troubles to the extent that it could be deemd habitual. It's very worrying though not nearly as worrying as it is for the civilian population of Syria.
