I went out to play today since it was sunny, dry and quite warm. I decided to go to the new Helix park then a couple of canals via the Falkirk wheel. It turned out to be an adventure.

First photo stop was at the Helix, where they're building a couple of horses heads which are 30 metres tall.

Then along the Forth and Clyde canal to the Falkirk wheel.

Coming home along the Union canal I saw a sign saying "old drove road" Now there is a sign about 200 yards from my house saying the same, so it figures, this will take me home.

Well it did take me home but it was 'fun' to say the least. It's not a bleeding road, it's a mixture of steep climbs up loose narrow track and across cows fields, then up more bleeding steep hills. Then down a steep track and across this:

Then yet more steep muddy gravelly tracks up more steep cliffs.

At this point it felt like a bridge too far but it was too far to go back down, so on I pressed. I had to get off the bike a couple of times due to steep bends on narrow muddy track but I made it.

It was an interesting end to my trip and I ended up glad that I had done it. Now, will I do it again? No chance, not a hope, never. Well we'll see, I might on a hot summers day, next year, maybe.

The council are in the process of building many miles of cycle paths. This path will not get made into a cycle path, parts of it are way too steep and there are loads of paths nearby.

Falkirk are is not short of places to 'play' on your bike.
