This story should be pause for thought, for those who are riding illegal 30+ mph electric motorcycles on our roads and pavements.

OK so this was a plastic car (that makes it even more disturbing, one would expect a car to be safer than a motorcycle in a collision at this speed), however there are clear parallels between these illegal electric motorcycles, and the Reva G-Wiz car fatality. That is a plastic car, and the early models were not impact safety tested (even at 30-40mph) nor were they really ever designed for UK roads or mixing with high-speed traffic. A woman ended up dead in one in a head-on collision with a car, at not excessive speed..only going around 30mph. She wasn't wearing her seat-belt but that was immaterial, as the car just crushed up and imploded.

Now imagine what would happen if this was one of these illegal high-powered electric motorcycles, with a rider without a driving license or any proper road and vehicle safety training, a vehicle he built himself, not safety tested or MOT'd, wearing no crash helmet, and ending up in a head-on collision at the same speed.

He or she would probably end up critically injured or dead, would be my guess.

Quadricycles are ok, one just has to use them sensibly. We'll see many more of them in the longer term, the Renault Twizy below being a forerunner of that:

I had drawn up a short list between the Twizy and Toyota Aygo, before I finally plumped for the Aygo. The weather proofing, or lack of it, finally put me off the Twizy.

Hang on a minute here.
Aren,t we just waiting for the inevitable ???
If S pedelecs were legal , fine, but fact is they are not.
Only today somebody posted about 15 of his mates all riding dongled bikes .
Just ask yourselves the obvious question. Had this incident, or one like it, involved one of these motorbikes where would it leave pedelecs???
With the number of folk using dongles its only a matter of time.
Its not if it happens its when. 200 plus cyclists died last year on uk roads. How long before some lawyer looks for excuses to mitigate a driver ( or rider)

Why make up figures?

Nothing like that number died last year. The average annual deaths of cyclists in the UK is around 112.

No figure is yet available for last year, 2015, but the year before, 2014, the number was 113.

if there that worried about it why buy 1 in the first place?

also with a dongle fitted the bike would be race class not s class

I'm just wondering what the relevance is whether an s-pedelec is legal or not. The result of the collision is the same as far as the rider is concerned either way isn't it?

Big difference. Rider of legal bike ends in wheel chair, car drivers insurance
Pay lots of compensation.
Rider of illegal vehicle gets taken to court and if he/she had any valuables they go along with to help pay the bankruptcy

say i hit someone and then removed the dongle/threw it in the hedge ect how would the court prove it with out the dongle ?as bosch cant even tell if 1 has been used or not.

with out that dongle as proof they would have nothing to prove it.

bit harder with s class as its on the frame.

My apologies flecc, it was 113 , I,d quoted number before as 113 but made a genuine( admittedly big) error.
It does not really change point of argument tho.
Somebody will kill or be killed whilst riding a dongled pedelec. It will have repurcussions for us all and terrible ones if a rider kills someone with one fitted, even if it had absolutely nothing to do with the accident.
As far as saying this is an S pedelec section...there is no such thing in this country and hence the problem.
There are legal pedelecs and there are motorbikes. ( ok probably mopeds)
The former have virtually no limiting legistlation. The latter two have loads.
Why take risk from a personal point of view and why risk the pedelecs as a group generally...??
Perhaps we should ok a section discussing the merits of heroine?? Somebody please explain why one is acceptable on here and other is not..

Is there anybody on this forum who doesn't know soundwave rides a dongled , untaxed, uninsured, unreg motorbike..I doubt it.
