With respect, who are you trying to kid?

1Kg each? For what...a 3 Ah battery? The Yuasa 5Ah 12v batt weighs 1.75Kg and the 12v 24Ah weighs 9Kg...

Your best bet would probably be 4 x 17AH batteries in series to give you 48 volts 17AH (the original question implied a range of 15-20AH). Each of these weighs around 6kg, so the total would be about 24kg for the battery alone.

Presumably you're not thinking of using such a setup on a bike - if you did, the batteries would probably weigh considerably more than the bike. Remember also that they won't last long if you use all of that capacity (i.e. fully discharge them each time) - you'd probably only get around 200 recharges - maybe less - before the available capacity would be seriously affected.

Rog, I agree

I am certainly not considering SLA batteries, I am not that strong, I have a Ping and Bosch Fatpacks.

I was asking the question so that one stop retail would inform the members of the true weight of the batteries they were trying to sell.

Yes indeed. They did appear to be a little optimistic, and using 20 (ish) small 12 volt batteries to make up a battery pack would be a difficult logistical exercise at best.

SLAs are cheap 'n' cheerful if you can live with their limitations - their weight and their dislike of being more than half discharged not least among them!

You would have to put 4 x 5-12v batteries together to make 48V and you will get the 20 Ah.

Kind regards
one crazy way to build a pack 4 x 5 amp 12 volt x 4 = 16 batteries in all. call Bernie at bikes and batteries (01780 471010) and buy 4 x 12 volt 20 amp deep cycle batteries from him
