May 19, 201411 yr Just checked the console after the mtb ride, and I think that there must be a glitch in the Matrix. http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae217/eddiejefferies/DSCF0860_zpsef7b4516.jpg
May 19, 201411 yr Not quite as fast, and a GPS speed. Sadly my Bosch display isn't much use, those in the know will know why.

May 20, 201411 yr Yes it's an old railway incline that was part of the Cromford and High Peak railway. The wind was blowing exactly the right way too. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/27/Cromford_And_High_Peak_Railway_Former_incline_near_Whaley_Bridge.jpg
May 20, 201411 yr Looks fun, & a little bit scarey at that speed Indeed, I reached my top speed just beyond the segment end, some very heavy braking was required at the bottom to make it round the bend in one piece.
May 20, 201411 yr I can get nearly 120mph top speed on the Bosch Secret - Just lift the back wheel and move the wheel (magnet) back and forth really quick past the speed sensor. Martin

Martin Or get Guy Martin to ride the bike http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/images/localworld/ugc-images/276370/Article/images/20372865/5662502-large.jpg

May 20, 201411 yr It was, I rolled into it looking at the view, kind of wish I'd hammered it round the top corner just to have bagged a downhill KOM, fastest time is just 4 seconds faster, which would have been easy on that day.
May 21, 201411 yr Indeed, I reached my top speed just beyond the segment end, some very heavy braking was required at the bottom to make it round the bend in one piece. That's what worries me if there is no viz ... also, round my neck of the woods there's always that part of me expecting an overtaking car full of tourists on the wrong side of the road or a wide load vehicle towing a boat or something. Not much chance of avoiding collision or high speed crash at those speeds with bicycle brakes. With no spotters / road controls, and no prior runs to make sure there are no potholes etc on the fast descents I just think it's too dangerous to open up completely.

Short of trying to achieve this sort of speed on a main road, the smaller roads around here are such that any attempt at reaching that sort of speed would be suicidal - 35 mph is bad enough. There is a long downhill stretch on the A59 from Blubberhouses towards Bolton Abbey that would be interesting though, with an easterly wind. And the bottom stretch is 50mph limit, so you could actually overtake cars there - assuming that they are obeying the speed limit!
May 21, 201411 yr It helps if you unplug your brain at the top. In hindsight it was probably a tad risky, there are sunken manhole covers somewhere on the descent, I just couldn't quite remember where. You would not believe the speeds some Strava users attain on some of the single-track descents around these parts, utterly bonkers.

It takes me conscious effort to plug my brain in, so I don't think I should actively seek to unplug it:confused:
May 21, 201411 yr You would not believe the speeds some Strava users attain on some of the single-track descents around these parts, utterly bonkers. On DH and freeride bikes I would be a lot more comfortable doing high speeds. Road bikes are the ones which I still struggle with given typical open road surface conditions. With those tyres, if you misjudged it and clipped a bad road repair I'm pretty sure you'd go flying (or worse still spring a puncture at 60mph !)
May 22, 201411 yr Flippin heck far too fast for me lol lol. The other day my average speed was 12.1 mph. This was after cycling 13.5 miles round and round the new cycle track near home. So pretty pathetic compared to some of you, but I was very happy as I think it's my best yet since chemo etc...
May 22, 201411 yr I have had a few rides at 6 to 12 MPH and enjoyed the ride stopping to see all the new life around (Lambs and bird life) with the weather being so mild it has been a joy just to ride slowly and creep up on the young rabbits and pheasants. Its great to be out of the rat race:p
May 23, 201411 yr it has been a joy just to ride slowly and creep up on the young rabbits and pheasants. Its great to be out of the rat race:p It certainly is! On one occasion I rode slowly alongside a pair of muntjac deer walking on the edge of the road and showing no fear. Normally they avoid any human contact, but obviously failed to recognise what I was when on a bike and pedalling slowly.
