Almost a year in the making, the latest version of the 50cycles.com website has launched in time for the electric bike specialist’s tenth year in business.

50cycles-homepage.jpgThe new website sports an updated look and fresh logo. Established features like online chat assistance and customer reviews are still at the centre of the 50cycles online presence but there is a clearer presentation of all bikes and are thousands of new cycling accessories to choose from, with a vast range of helmets, clothing, lights, parts, luggage and even racks for carrying your bikes.

Shoppers can zero in on any item using the search box at the top right of every page, and refine their search results easily with handy filtering options.

The online shopping system has been streamlined and now uses the best security available with PCI DSS Level 1 compliance and 2048-bit SSL certificate encryption. 50cycles now accepts PayPal as well as credit and debit cards.

50cycles have offered finance deals on their electric bikes for a while but the new website offers online application for the first time. Just select your bike and accessories, pay your deposit at checkout then complete the secure form to apply for interest free finance (typical 0% APR fixed for 12 months). The decision is nearly instant in most cases.

More features will be introduced over time. A wider network of Kalkhoff e-bike demonstrators is coming and existing owners can list their current electric bike for sale for free on 50cycles, the most popular and trusted electric bike site in the UK. When a used ebike sells, all the proceeds can go towards a brand new model or the seller can opt to cash out.

Work started on the new 50cycles.com website this time last year and would-be electric cyclists will find it as fast, safe and easy to use as the Kalkhoff bikes showcased on it.

It's a big site and despite having been scoured for weeks, there are bound to be things we've missed - send me an email at tim@50cycles.com and I'll try to sort out an problems you might find.

A big improvement - good stuff. Nice structure there too for fleshing out info.

Might be willing to help with demonstrator concept too - but need to get my Alfine gears to behave themselves first (slippage since the off and very hard to tune in; still battling to get it to behave consistently and is thrown completely out if the wheel is removed for routine work like tyre fitting ... happy to PM more info on this if of interest and you may be interested in this if not already seen it - LBS and I both now pretty familiar with the manual and the unit's behaviour !

Hi Alex, best to contact Matt or Jim in our workshop, if you haven't already, via Contact Us | 50cycles - the Electric Bike Suppliers (select Workshop contact and it'll go straight to them).

10 years in the business that's quite an achievement Tim, congrats. You must be doing something right!

Can't let you get away with all this praise Tim, so here's some points!

Many older people buy e-bikes and with lessened eyesight they sometimes use 800 x 600 screen resolution. The right hand side of your site is cut off when using that, with no lateral scroll bar to enable it to be seen.

The link to enable seeing all e-bike models has gone now, leaving one having to go through all the categories listed to see the full range of choice. That makes some comparisons less easy to make.

On the Kalkhoff Impulse Introduction page, the link at the foot to "What's it Like to Ride" is active but just returns one to the existing page instead of page 2.

Other than these small points, a nice web site.

I see that the Kalkhoff Impulse C8 is reduced by £400 to £1695. Based on my experience of testing one back in April, I would recommend a test ride to anyone who wants an upright riding position (minimum stress on hands and back) but still has a modest amount of leg function. People who must have moped style riding, e.g. have a disability which means they can't turn the pedals, should look elsewhere.

I have also had an email this afternoon saying "a full 30% off the RRP for the Kalkhoff Agattu C8 HS electric bike, down from £2195 to £1536.50 including VAT and UK mainland delivery."
That sounds even better value but unfortunately the link does not work on the new website
.

Does that also apply to people who have a wicked sense of humor, but seriously, it appears the advice notification appears to be missing from the Sports range.
I suspect it is an oversight and that the original un-ammended product templates were used to construct the new site.
I dont think anyone wants a re-appearance of the old debate.

I dont think anyone wants a re-appearance of the old debate.
My first thought was to say "lazy", but I thought that would be too inflammatory, and might indeed open an unwanted debate. What really tickled me recently was the post by someone who was disinclined to pedal and also complained about his hand getting tired when holding the throttle open, and then debate ensued about methods of fixing the throttle at the desired position and also cruise control.

However to return to the point, for those interested in a crank drive bike (no throttle), I have now searched the new site found the correct link for the Agattu C8 Impulse HS, which should have been in the email I received. It is actually the crossbar model - not the step thru, but still it looks to be exceptional value for someone who has adequate leg mobility to comfortably mount a cross bar bike - rules out me unfortunately. I will continue with my early 2011 step-thru Agattu which still works very well.

I think you will find that the majority of ebike users whether using a throttle or a PAS understand that if they want to get the desired range out of their bikes they need to assist using the pedals, I know I do.
