Hi there

Some of you on here may of know that I use to own a Life Cycle 500w (geared) ebike rated @ 25amps, battery size 37v 17ah. This bike has NEVER let me down over a 2-3 year period from new, the only thing is that the motor is slightly noisy due to its internal gearing. What I love about the battery is that it has NEVER cut out on me during very long journeys it just keeps on going and going but with a noticeable decline in speed .

A good friend of mine loaned me his Wisper 905se for a few days it is a 250w (gearless) ebike rated @ (unknown amps),battery size 37v 16ah. This bike rides fantastic and exceptionally great on hill climbing.
Now that I have ridden both bikes I really and truly can not tell the difference, I will say though that the 500w maybe between 1-3mph faster. Therefore what I would like to know is there any point in buying a 500w motor over a 250w or is David hiding some kind of secret technology away from us:oops:.
The other thing that also confuses me now is that if both bikes are rated equally and the only difference are in the motor sizes which one will be more efficient resulting in better overall mileage. Will the 500w motor draw more energy/current/power from the battery making it less efficient and reducing the mileage?

I thought that the Wisper had the Dapu motor, which is geared

When I had last looked it had read 8fun on the motor and it may well and be a geared motor but that is very quiet compared to my 500w motor which screamed out when riding during the night when the streets were less noisy.

I haven't seen one recently, but I have it at the back of my mind that they switched to Dapu when they started making their bikes in Germany. Oxygen and BH Emotion Neos also use Dapu motors now.

Your motor will probably go a lot smoother and quieter with a sine-wave controller. Do you know if it has hall sensors?

Most of the 905 series had 8fun motors, but there was a switch to the Dapu motor for the last couple of years. Both are internally geared.
