I have not been on the pedelecs forum for quite a while. My wife and i still have our Kalkhoff Aggatus with the 18ah batteries fitted. They have now both rolled over 5000 miles on our catseyes cycle computers, and in reality probably closer to 6000 miles, as we fitted the cycle computers later.

Very impressed with the bikes and the Panasonic drive system, no problems at all with both bikes. They are now 3 years old, and the batteries seem to be holding out well. Not quite as punchy as when they were new, and the range has dropped by i would say 10 to 15% but that is about it.

The Kalkhoff cycle parts are really excellent, both bikes feel tight and frankly to ride they feel like new. With a wash both bikes look like new, the bikes are not babied at all, they are stored and bashed about, in a communal bike shed, but they really look like new.

My only bugbear is that Kalkhoff say on the battery that you have a 140km range, the reality is 70km. Maybe 140km on a flat Dutch cycle track, cycling at 8 mph, with a hurricane force tailwind, but in reality it is 70Km.

Overall apart from the range, we are both very happy

I meant to reply to this and forgot.

Your experience of a Kalkhoff bike and Panasonic motor combination seems to reflect mine, although my bike is six years old and has done a lot more miles, it was super reliable right up to the end.

The original six year old 10 Ah Panasonic battery is still good for 26 to 30 miles too.

There is a lot to be said or the Panasonic system with its superb reliability, its silent & strong power delivery and its kindness to the transmission (gears, sprockets & chains). It makes me wonder if some of the latest developments, such as that hideous small front sprocket on the Bosch system, are simply gimmicks for the titillation of the fashion conscious part-time electric cyclist?

Just to reply on your comment about the new bosch smaller sprocket system.. I think it makes them look more Motor/Scramble bike like, and I think it would put me off buying one!
