In the real world, I live in a country that allows 600W. The most common bikes here in the mountains are exactly the same as any mid motor EMTB that you buy in UK. I don't know what happens in the city but I do know the police do control top speed etc with portable dynamometers.

Here's the thing: If your motor breaks or you need a new controller, you either pay way over the odds for 250W or buy the cheaper motors/controllers that go well above 250W. The market and law are at odds.

Who needs 500w rated motors anyway? wont a bigger motor just drink more juice to run in the first place, hence less range or bigger batteries ;(

you can have a 50kw motor as long as it cuts out above 15mph and no way to change it controller/software wise and have the correct stamps ect.

That is what happened to the S class 45 kph pedelecs. Because 250 watts wasn't sufficient, the legal limit was upped to 500 watts. But that proved so greedy the market, customers and makers, settled on 350 watts as the ideal balance.

so 5mph:11W; 10mph:44W; 15mph:100W; 20mph:178W; 25mph:278W; 30mph:400W; 35mph:544W; 40mph:711W; 45mph:900W; 50mph; 1111W.

so if i can hit 39.6 on the flat at 120rpm at the cranks with 3-400 watts coming from my legs with a 20 amp controller means my motor with a dongle is way more powerful than it is rated at.

the motor can be shunt modded to 30a might get a bit hot but because of the batts bms safety bs if you try it more than 1a more it can brick it

my bike would be classed as race class so not road legal at all but been riding it over ten years now and the only thing it has broken is me and upgrading it
