3rd party battery for Bosch

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I have two chinese rack battery packs for my old ebike.

My newer ebike (Bosch Performance Line) has frame mounted pack.

Is it possible to make an adapter harness to be able to use the other packs on the Bosch?

Best would be one battery system of course, the opposite way would work too. But for extra long rides on my newer I am wondering about this.

I have found this cable:

https://www.adrenalinatv.co.uk/shop/components/bosch-rack-battery-cable-3/

But I have a feeling the two thinner leads there are something for signals or something that my cheap packs don't have (they are only two pin).

Anyone knows?

the bms in the bosch packs have to talk to the motor so any other bms will not work with it.

the y cable will only work on 2017 motors with the update for it installed and that can only be done buy bosch so unless you have a bike with it already no real way to make it work as dealers cant do the motor update.

I noticed that right now is just one MTB ebike from Muller support dual battery and can be purchased with 1Kwh. Interesting if there will be more eMTB from otchers manufacturers.

ps. Do you use chip for unlock 25km/h and crank with more than 16t?

I saw this article about two bikes with dual battery:

https://eurocycles.com.au/blog/bosch-dual-battery/

On topic: I couldn't find information, but the two thinner leads seem to be some (very simple) handshaking-thing for the system to accept the connection. It could be easy to "overcome" but I can't find any information about it. Too bad, well well, I might replace my older ebike with a new one with Bosch instead (I'm impressed about the capacity/durability of the 500Wh Bosch pack every time I use it).

I am curious to know why so many Bosch customers resent paying normal price for a Bosch battery. Is it because:

1) you feel Bosch overcharge for their batteries

2) you think other makes are just as good, so why pay more?

I don't know if this is the thread to answer this question. But personally I feel they are worth the price.

Neither, at least for me, just looking to see if there is an alternative that is good enough and cheaper. Just like I do for fuel for my car ...

Just browsing around I see that on Alibaba there are 3rd party alternatives for the current 400 and 500 battery models starting to appear, such as here https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/36v-replace-Bosch-power-pack-500_60705126866.html?spm=a2700.7724857.main07.241.11c4cee2crHG2Z

I'm very impressed with the range from the 500 batteries we both have so don't need one of these immediately. Hopefully someone else will have taken the risk of first purchase before we start touring in the spring and I get tempted :)

well there cheap but id not like to be the first one to try one as no idea what cells are in it and then there is the bms talking to the motor.

insat can recell then for not much more and can pick the cells so think ill go down that rout when the time comes ;)
