Nobody ever measured the results, so that feature was never confirmed. The instruction is for the display. The controller might not support that feature.

Regarding the max current, 23A was written on the original S12S. They might have changed it now, when they went to a bigger case.

The current can still be restricted by PAS. If you have it set to torque simulation mode (default), each PAS level is a different current. That has been confirmed, so you'll be OK as long as you don't use the maximum level and go easy on the throttle.

Ah that makes sense
My controller is huge, bigger than spec on website .
It also has 30a stamped on case
