Could anyone tell me if there are any 2 pin output Silverfish batteries available from a reputable seller or are these now pretty much obsolete? Can a 4 pin conversion be carried out and how easy would this be? I'm thinking of resurrecting my old Freego ebike that been in storage, thanks for any advice.

When you buy a silver fish battery, you normally get the base plate and the aluminium lock-strip with it. The base plate has two wires that come out of the bottom, the same as what you already have. If you're lucky, they'll have the same bullet connectors on them, otherwise cut off the bullets of your old one and solder them onto your new one.

Whenever you get a new battery, always disconnect the wires from the controller, then switch on the battery and test with a meter that the two wires that connect to the controller are the right way round, i.e. the red one has positive battery voltage on it.

Thanks. I would still need to find a 2 port battery though wouldn't I? There seems to be more 4 port batteries out there and can they be converted? Is there a 4 pin plate conversion and would that work with the handlebar power control unit? Do you know of any good retailers of the 2 port batteries? It's just that a lot of battery sellers just look a bit dodgy and potentially substandard. Sorry, lots of questions. I am being cautious because I lost a load of money on getting my original battery pack rebuilt and it never worked.properly after that, something I would never do again. I'm very keen not to throw good money after bad..................I've just seen a 4 pin base plate on ebay, could this be wired in the the handlebar controller?

It doesn't matter how many discharge ports the battery has as long as it is a generic type with no CANbus.
A generic battery with four ports is often for charging on a bike, sometimes the battery charge port isn't accessible when on the bike so the cradle will have another charge point which will utilise the pair of inner ports. These will be wired to the charge circuit on the BMS and not the discharge, only the outer pair are wired for the discharge circuit.

Oh thank you all. So I can now look at the 4 pin battery packs without any worry. I set up my first very small home solar array during lockdown and it has worked well charging both my home phone and work phone. I've added a 240v power inverter to charge up my work laptop too. I think it would be good to upgrade a bit to charge up my old electric bike and to be powered by the sun's energy. Good for the soul I think.

Just use a meter to check the battery discharge ports match the bike discharge ports and the polarity is correct.
