What size battery would I need roughly for about a 30 mile range with a high power kit? I don't mean gunning it all the time I mean achievable on medium assist with some climbs? Considering a higher power setup for the first time. Or is 500w more realistic for longer ranges?

depends how fast that you want to go soon as you go above 15mph it will eat the batts esp if you are not putting in any effort.

the fastest bike you can buy can go 200mph but for only 20 miles and it costs 50k

i get about 25 miles from a 500w bosch batt with the speed limit removed.

I was looking at a bike with 48v 17ah battery, 1500w motor. Interestingly it's also available in 10ah I don't see that going very far. I wouldn't be hooning it all the time, just doing what I do with a lower power bike just using a medium level of assist with bursts of throttle when needed

get the bigger batt tho it will get to a point where it just turns in to one big heavy lump more waight more power and you end up with a 60kg bike with hi speed and short range.

have a look at the bafang hd as you can programme the controller for max amps ect.

I'll be doing a cheap hub first to test the waters, although those are a nice bit of kit. I'd just get a 125 or a scooter but I have nowhere to keep it, an e bike can be kept out the way in the house. For someone like me the ability to register these would be great, but seeing as it's near impossible I'll have to be in a legal grey area

My thoughts too, as most e bikers are sensible people and they don't make any noise I think they are using discretion, I saw a 1000w bolt past police and they didn't even acknowledge it. I've noticed most people don't even realisd I'm on an ebike tbh. And like you say they'll not catch you anyway lol
