Thanks for the reply, the Bickerton is much reduced and looking at prices on ebay anything decent (Brompton) is almost double the price of the Bickerton. I'll start a thread as I have lots of questions about conversion generally.

If you go down the splicing in route you can buy inline solder connectors which heatshrink, and you should stagger the joints so they don't line up together to keep the cable less...
