New to all this! About to get an e-bike and insurance

A legal pedalec must satisfy 250w rated max power, 15.5mh max assisted speed, must pedal to get assistance. If you have one of those it counts as a regular bike, you can ride it where you would ride a bike (bridleways etc), no need for insurance, registration, helmet, license. etc. CTC or...

    charging a battery help

Is there a button an LEDs on the battery to show how charged it is. Green on the charger could mean battery charged, or could mean broken connection between charger and battery.

    Rear wheel rim problem

Some of the most efficient (from the point of view of breaking) rim brake pads also cause the most wear. Also, if the rim wear and the issue you pointed to at the start are much more on one side of rim than the other it may be that your brakes aren't correctly adjusted.

    Rear wheel rim problem

Many rims have wear strips that look somewhat like that. When the wear strip becomes invisible it's time to replace the rim. It may be your wasn't that well made, and that the wear strip is mostly worn away but the bit left has degraded.

    Pendleton Somerby pre 2019

The higher power one will probably have a slightly longer life. Maybe the same number of recharge cycles, so 15% longer life in miles. It might have slightly less voltage sag as well, certainly if it is made with more parallel groups of the same cells as the lower power one.

EVERCROSS EV12M Kids Ride On Motorcycle

My first memory is at 3 when my cousin (also 3) was moving to South Africa ; saying goodbye in our back garden and being told it would be a long time before I saw her again. (Return trips from South Africa weren't very common in 1950)

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

I certainly hope so. We are involved with a much much smaller project in rural Tanzania: https://sumbawanga.org.uk/projects/greening-project/ Looking very successful, I must get them (eg our son) to update the website.

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

That's for pedestrianized shopping areas; they aren't road and they aren't pavement so they must be 'off-road'.

Anyone own a big game bike ?

You are probably ware, but just in case... You are definitely in S-pedalec with that one; no legal use on public road without registration/insurance etc, and no use in public off-road places such as cycle paths, bridleways, canal paths, etc.

Hoping to increase driver passing distance at night, I've glued front and rear reflectors to my wing mirrors.

Surely you are up to making a rotating GoPro mount. While you are at it you might mount few extra rotating lights in case anyone fails to see you.

OK, it's not a bike, but it is electric... Bubble cars are back!

Used to be a common sight down very bendy route 9 near San Jose California when we lived there around 1990. Though they were probably only doing about 30mph.

OK, it's not a bike, but it is electric... Bubble cars are back!

Or how about a three seater tandem with an extra wheel in the middle in case of a heavy first stoker. Steering might be a bit odd (but so is it with most tricycles, or so I understand.

Surely we had the Department of Administrative Affairs ~ comes to much the same thing. (oh but that was fiction and DOGE may not be)

Help! Are there any thru-axle compatible hub motors similar to the akm-75?

There seem to be quite a lot of problems with expensive Mahle batteries. They tend to be favoured more by users of the Cycling UK website than this one; you will see a string of problems at https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?t=156980&sid=867561bd8aac0d512d88b8e4956e9b52

29er MXUS XF07 wheel build, good idea, bad idea?

Tyre sizing is nuts. It used to be confusing for various historic reasons with different conventions in different countries. (eg a 26x1 1/4" is different than a 26x1.25", and a 27" is bigger than a 28") They then nearly go it sensible with ISO sizing. But marketing departments didn't like the...

    V-brakes pads inserts

Be aware that some pads will give better breaking, but at the expense of much increased rim wear. I'm not saying that is true of those, but worth considering.

    Range difference on identical systems

Range will obviously vary a huge amount depending on riding style, assistance level, hills, etc etc The Bosch range estimator on the display only takes account of the last mile or so of riding to give its estimate. Might well say 30 miles at home (***), ride 2 miles to the top of the hill and...

    nut size

Yes, you can buy a left crank arm separately too. If the crank arm is the correct fit for the BB axle, and you haven't stripped the thread to take the crake remover thread, it's unlikely to be much wrong with the arm. You may need a washer under the bolt maybe the bolt's too long and hitting...
